Gas Discharge Tubes Can Be a Bad Option
The Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) in telecommunications is to protect and to prevent the voltage at the circuit lines rises above a certain value relative to ground potential.
But if the ground, near an outdoor telecom box is affected by a high voltage current discharge (lightning or power lines), its potential will rise and through activated GDT will be transferred over telecommunications circuit lines and may cause severe damage and endanger workers and customers.
